Trump Claims International Support for Effort to Cut Off Iran Oil Exports
Speaking to reporters after arriving at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, Trump claimed that developments around the Strait of Hormuz were “very positive” from the US perspective, according to reports.
He also said that the existing ceasefire involving Iran was “holding well,” while asserting that Iran’s military capabilities had been severely weakened. He further claimed that Iran’s naval forces had been destroyed, though he provided no evidence for these statements.
Trump confirmed that a blockade was scheduled to begin the following morning and said coordinated international action was aimed at preventing Iran from continuing oil exports. He suggested that such measures would be highly effective in restricting Iran’s economic activity.
He also noted that oil tankers were reportedly changing routes to avoid the Strait of Hormuz, saying vessels were instead heading toward the United States and other destinations to offload supplies. According to his remarks, this shift reflects broader adjustments in global oil flows amid rising tensions.
The US president additionally claimed that the United States holds larger oil reserves than both Russia and Saudi Arabia combined, framing this as a reason for increased tanker movement toward American ports.
He concluded by stating that Iran is facing significant economic and political pressure and suggested that Tehran is seeking a deal under strained conditions, according to reports.
